One of Durham’s Most Celebrated Golf Courses
Enjoy a fun and challenging day with friends, family or colleagues at Duke University Golf Club.
The beautiful 18-hole championship course opened in 1957 and is the only Robert Trent Jones-designed course in the region. Renovated by Jones’ son Rees in 1993, the Duke University Golf Club was the site of the 2001 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship and has earned honors as a Top 25 College Course in the U.S. by Golf Pass, among the best courses on the Top 100 Golf Course rating platform, and, consistently, one of the finest University golf courses in North America.
Ed Ibarguen, General Manager and PGA Director of Golf at the Duke University Golf Club, was inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame in 2021, an honor that recognizes individuals who have made significant and enduring contributions to the PGA of America in the organization’s mission to grow the game of golf. As a PGA Master Professional and member for more than four decades, Ibarguen has earned national recognition as a GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher and Golf Digest Best in State Teacher, both since 2001, and GRAA Top 50 instructor since 2012. In addition, Ibarguen has twice earned PGA national awards – the Bill Stransbaugh Award in 1995 and the Professional Development Award in 1998 – and was inducted into the prestigious Carolinas PGA Hall of Fame in 2015. Ibarguen shares his passion for golf instruction and works to provide excellence at every level of service at the Duke University Golf Club, where he was hired in 1988 to direct golf operations.
In addition, the Club’s PGA professional staff has been featured in PGA Magazine for promoting fun golf instruction in helping to grow the game of golf. The staff includes three PGA Certified Coaches and two Class ‘A’ members who are available to help golfers elevate their games with private or group instruction. These PGA of America professionals also host a wide variety of golfing events from fun group putting outings and clinics, to fun and competitive golf tournaments.
