Afternoon tea returns at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club
Guests of all ages are invited to experience the Inn’s traditional afternoon tea service, featuring savories, sweets and scones in the Fairview Dining Room
DURHAM, N.C., Sept. 9, 2022 – The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, the AAA Four Diamond hotel property located on the campus of Duke University, has announced the return of its beloved afternoon tea service in the elegant, inviting atmosphere of the Fairview Dining Room. Teatime reservations are now available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
“Over the years, our afternoon tea service has earned its reputation as one of the most beloved traditions at the Inn,” said Daniel Lotz, Hotel Manager, Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and Area Director of Operations. “We are thrilled to offer guests this special occasion to experience the Fairview Dining Room’s classic ambiance, culinary mastery and impeccable service. This is a timeless custom that invites us to live in the moment while enjoying quality time spent with cherished company.”
For each Classic Afternoon Tea service, guests may choose from a selection of nearly a dozen loose leaf teas sourced from The Republic of Tea, a leading American purveyor of premium teas. The menu rotates with tea options ranging from the famed Earl Grey, a black tea blended with natural oils of bergamot to give it a delicate citrus flavor and fragrance, to Rose Petal, a royal tea blend with the light spice of delicate, young rose buds and petals atop the sweet fullness of black tea. Caffeine free options may include a classic, decaffeinated British Breakfast Tea alongside floral and fragrant blends like Blueberry Hibiscus, which mingles tangy Nigerian hibiscus with the deep flavor of blueberries and hints of lively rosehips and sweet, juicy apples.
Each guest is served a pot of tea with a selection of sandwiches, sweets, cookies and scones prepared by the Fairview Dining Room culinary team, led by Area Executive Chef Troy Stauffer. The scones are served with an assortment of traditional accompaniments that may include butter, clotted cream, strawberry preserves and lemon curd.
Guests may opt for the Tea Royale enhancement, which adds a glass of champagne, mimosa or Kir Royale cocktail to the meal. Children 12 and under are invited to enjoy a Kids Afternoon Tea menu, which includes a tailored variation of scones, sandwiches and sweets.
Known for its beautifully manicured grounds, stately Duke University Golf Course views and grand accommodations, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is a premier hotel destination.
